Commercial Real Estate Strategy Assessment - Not Every Answer is a Build-to-Suit

Marsh & Partners Unveils New Real Estate Strategy Assessment to Help Small Business Owners Better Align Strategy

Published Release:

Matt Marsh, founding partner of Marsh & Partners, today announced that the firm has published a new real estate strategy assessment tool. The assessment will give business owners more of an understanding of what real estate solutions are available, in an effort to help better align real estate and business strategy and enable core operations.

"A lot of business owners come to us saying they want to engage in a build-to-suit. And maybe that's what makes the most sense." said Marsh. "But it's important that the decision is intentional. All too often, small business owners become commercial landlords by accident, and their real estate is not optimized for their operations."

The strategy assessment will ask participants a series of questions about their business, personal and professional goals, growth projections, operations, and strategy - with contingent follow-up questions based on a respondent's answers. Once complete, participants will receive a personalized email with applicable resources and some thoughts based on their situation.

A build-to-suit is one approach for businesses to better optimize their real estate. But it's not the only approach. Aligning real estate and business strategy means considering the interconnected implications of real estate for a small business, like tax and legal, facility optimization, workplace strategy, and equity and balance sheet considerations.

"Success in business isn't a neat path from A to B, and it's a shame when owners end up fighting with their real estate, rather than their real estate supporting their operations." Marsh adds. "What's worse is most business owners don't know their real estate has such widespread consequences across many business functions. And we believe this assessment tool can help change that ."

Although there are many well-recognized benefits to commercial real estate, ownership doesn't always make sense. This assessment, and Marsh & Partners' expertise in helping small businesses navigate the many challenges of a real estate strategy, provide a timely roadmap for owners concerned with the changing economic landscape.

The build-to-suit and real estate strategy assessment is available for free here.
